Regiment

REGIMENT is a free, print-and-play tabletop wargame focusing on vast combined-arms battles using epic-scale miniatures. Build your army, command your forces, and recreate epic conflicts across the galaxy.

The REGIMENT ruleset utilizes specific base footprints to govern movement and facing direction. While miniature scale can vary, the base itself is the definitive component for all gameplay interactions.

1. Standard Base Dimensions

To ensure accessibility and compatibility with existing tabletop tools, the following base sizes the only ones utilized for the current open alpha phase:

Shape Dimensions Common Unit Types
Square 30x30mm

Infantry, Emplacements, Light Vehicles

Square 40x40mm Medium Vehicles, Small Aerial Vehicles
Square 60x60mm

Medium Aerial Vehicles, Heavy Vehicles

Rectangle 25x50mm Long Light Vehicles
Rectangle 50x75mm Long Heavy Vehicles

2. Aerial Unit Basing

Units with the Aerial type—such as gunships, starfighters, and dropships—are designed to be compatible with existing flight-stand systems.

  • X-Wing Compatibility: Players are encouraged to utilize X-Wing Miniatures style bases.

    • Small X-Wing Bases function as 40x40mm squares.

    • Medium X-Wing Bases function as 60x60mm squares.

  • Custom Mounts: You are not restricted to commercial flight stands. Any mounting method is acceptable provided the base footprint matches the unit's technical specifications.

3. Leader Representation

Leaders in Regiment are not independent units; they are assigned to a parent unit at the start of the game and cannot be individually targeted or perform separate attacks. When a leader is assigned, their representation on the board will simply follow the parent unit around as it moves. They can be represented in the following ways:

  • Tokens: Leaders may be represented by a simple 2D "Leader Token."

  • Miniatures: If representing a Leader with a miniature, any scale or base size is permitted as long as it does not physically obstruct gameplay and the opponent consents to its presence. It would recommend using a small round base for leader miniatures.

4. The "Base-First" Scaling Philosophy

Because the base size is fixed for balance, model scale must sometimes be adjusted to accommodate the footprint. While 6mm (1:270 to 1:300) is the target, larger canonical vehicles may require "box-scale" adjustments to fit.

  • Scale-to-Fit Examples: A canonical MTT (36m length) at 1:300 scale would exceed 120mm, making it incompatible with its intended 50x75mm base. In these instances, the model should be scaled down further (e.g., 1:480 / 75mm~ length) to ensure the chassis fits the base.

  • Clearance Rules: Models must not unreasonably obscure the four edges of their base. While antennas, weapon barrels, or high-clearance components may overhang, the primary footprint should remain clear to facilitate accurate measurement and base-to-base contact.

5. Infantry Scale Options

Since the 30mm square base is the only gameplay requirement for infantry, players have three primary options for miniature selection:

  • 6mm (1:285): The intended scale for the game. This allows for high-density miniatures displays on each base.

  • 8mm (1:220): The recommended scale for players to balance visuals and relative scaling. These models are small enough to fit in with the vehicles a 6mm scale but also more visible and easier to print than the smaller alternative.

  • 10mm (1:182): The scale for players prioritizing visual clarity. These models are easier to paint and identify on the table while maintaining a reasonable aesthetic relationship with 6mm vehicles. They are also the easiest to print on a FDM (filament) printer.

  • Skirmish (28mm – 32mm): Players wishing to reuse existing skirmish-scale collections (such as Star Wars: Legion from AMG or Star Wars: Miniatures from WotC) can utilize Base Adapters. These frames non-destructively convert standard round bases into the required 30mm square footprint.

Note: Always verify the specific base requirements on the unit's digital profile before mounting miniatures.
